Chozas Carrascal

The story of Chozas Carrascal began with Julían Lopez, a man whose passion for wines extended well beyond Spain. Julían Lopez enjoyed collecting bottles and labels from around the world, gaining a unique appreciation for wines from various regions and appellations. In 1990, he founded his own winery in D.O. Requena, joined by a French enologist from Bandol. Together, they planted varieties uncommon in Spain, such as Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay, sparking curiosity among the local villagers who had never seen such an approach to viticulture and winemaking. After three decades of dedication, Chozas Carrascal has gained both national and international recognition, achieving the esteemed Vino de Pago designation, a distinction held by only 23 wineries in Spain. Today, it remains a family-owned treasure, producing exceptional wines such as Spain’s finest Cabernet Franc, a unique blend of eight grape varieties, and distinctive Cavas. With a humble but ambitious vision, Chozas Carrascal creates wines that bring new perspectives to Spanish winemaking. Introducing diverse grape varieties and an original philosophy embracing innovation.
