Viñas Murillo
Viñas Murillo is a family-owned winery founded in 2019, a project born in the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The family Murillo owns the oldest vineyards of Verdejo in the world, which are over 150 years old and among the few pre-phylloxera vines left in Spain. Protected by sandy soils, these old vines have been untouched by the phylloxera.
For decades, Viñas Murillo supplied grapes to the renowned winery of Belondrade, after realizing the value of the grapes they had. The family saw an opportunity to produce their own wines, using these remarkable old vines as a foundation.
The family chose to start their winemaking project without any financial pressures, focusing instead on quality and respect for their unique vineyard. They hired a team of skilled enologists and winemakers to help bring their vision to life, taking advantage of the Verdejo grape’s full potential. The sandy, low-fertility soil makes planting new vines challenging, resulting in a vineyard with a distinctive, rustic layout that reflects the land’s natural character.
Since its founding, Viñas Murillo’s wines have been appreciated for their authentic Verdejo profile. Recognized as the “historic taste of a true Verdejo.”
