SPANISH TERROIR · THE TEAM
— About

Built around origin,
not volume.

We search Spain for wines that speak clearly of their landscape, climate, grape, and maker.

Our story

Spanish wine,
properly translated.

Spain is widely considered one of the best value-for-quality wine countries in Europe, and arguably in the world. Its extraordinary diversity of wine regions, old vineyards, deep-rooted winemaking history, and the emergence of a new generation of talented winemakers make Spain one of the most exciting wine-producing countries today.

At Spanish Terroir, we work in close collaboration with Guía Peñín, Spain's most influential wine authority, to import exceptional Spanish wines into the Netherlands. Through Peñín's experienced tasting panel, which evaluates hundreds of wines every day, we are able to identify wines that perfectly match the style, authenticity, and quality we seek for the Dutch market. This partnership allows us to efficiently source outstanding wines with exceptional price-to-quality value.

Our mission is to showcase the true diversity and richness of Spanish terroir while elevating the perception and appreciation of Spanish wines among Dutch consumers and wine professionals. We focus on wines that express origin, identity, and craftsmanship: wines with a story behind them, created by passionate producers who deeply respect their land and vineyards.

Guía Peñín is an essential tool in helping us discover the real quality and potential of small and independent Spanish winemakers, many of whom remain unknown outside Spain despite producing remarkable wines.

We focus on honest wines at fair prices, aimed at sommeliers and wine professionals who understand that true quality is found in the glass itself, beyond scores, articles, or trends. We believe wine ultimately speaks for itself. That is why we value authenticity, transparency, and genuine work both in the vineyard and in the winery.

As sommeliers ourselves, we understand the daily challenges of the hospitality industry and the level of quality professionals are searching for. We see this project as a bridge connecting Spanish wineries and winemakers with sommeliers and wine lovers in the Netherlands.

Our philosophy

Four pillars.

I

Origin

A wine should be read first as the place it comes from. Region, soil, altitude, microclimate — those come before house style.

II

Precision

Restrained extraction, restrained oak, restrained intervention. The grape should still be audible.

III

Gastronomy

Every wine is tested at the table. Pairings are real, not theoretical, and they shape what we choose to import.

IV

Relationships

Long-term partnerships with producers we know personally. Their work, our portfolio.

For gastronomy

Designed for the floor.

Restaurants are our primary audience. Every wine in the portfolio is tested for what it does on a list — at glass-pour temperature, in a service rhythm, against a real menu. We work closely with sommelier teams on by-the-glass programs, tasting menus, and quiet pours that deserve a second look.

  • Glass-pour-ready selections
  • Tasting menu support, course by course
  • Staff training & producer visits
  • Custom allocations for cellar lists

How we select wines

The selection process.

  1. 01
    Origin first
We start with regions and producers who say something specific. Often older vines, native varieties, or a recovery project.
  2. 02
    Vineyard visit
We walk the vines, see the soils, taste from tank and barrel. Always.
  3. 03
    Vintage tasting
We taste blind across vintages to understand consistency and trajectory.
  4. 04
    Table tests
Every shortlisted wine is tested at the table — alone, with food, at service temperature.
  5. 05
    Slow inclusion
New producers usually take a year of conversation to enter the portfolio.
