Raúl Tamayo
Raúl Tamayo also runs a second, highly personal project focused on extremely limited production — often yielding less than two barrels per wine. The vineyards are around 20 years old (with the exception of the Garnacha) and the winemaking philosophy is centred on minimal oak influence.
The wines are aged in older barrels (around eight years of use) for a minimum of two and up to eight years on the barrels, allowing the terroir to speak rather than the wood. The objective is to showcase the purity of the terroir and demonstrate the potential and seriousness that can be achieved even under the Vino de Mesa classification.
The vineyards are located in Pampliega, approximately 30 km from Burgos, near the Ribera del Duero area, at an altitude of around 900 m with a north-facing exposure. The soils consist of sandy topsoil with calcareous subsoil, where limestone (caliza) is abundant, contributing freshness, structure and mineral tension to the wines.
